This year's contest was a battle to the finish, with 9 teams participating, and it took 11 rounds to whittle things down to the last two teams. In the final stage, with only two teams left, the rules require that a misspelled word go to the other team to be corrected, then back to the first team if another misspelling occurs. It keeps getting batted back and forth if necessary.
The word fuchsia turned out to be a huge stumbling block. Misspellings included fuschia, fuscha, fuchia (twice!), and fuscia. Finally, the Lovely Ladies spelled it correctly, then validated the win by spelling diphtheria.
Our congratulations to all the participants. There wasn't a loser among them.
