Remember to visit the fine folks at
Northland Community Church on June 27th. and join in the celebration
of one full year of Angel Food here in Missaukee County.
Here at the Commission on Aging (COA) we
are gearing up for July 2nd, and our annual fund raiser for Senior
Project Fresh. For those who do not know; Senior Project Fresh
is a nutrition program that offers to persons 60 years of age and
older and income eligible (185% of poverty); which translates into
$20,036/year for a single person and $26,955 for a couple.....coupons
for locally grown produce at no cost to the participants. Your
local COA has been the lead agency for this program for the last four
years. Our county has had the second highest redemption rate in
the state of Michigan, with over 95% of the recipients using the
coupons.
On Thursday July 2, 2009 from 9 a.m. to 3
p.m. the COA will be having a Neighborhood Festival here on the corner
of John and Canal Streets.....a bake sale and raffle look to be the
highlights of the day...but games geared to kids 7 years of age and
under, face painting, a visit from a balloon artist Pirate....as well
as food, music, and a Celebrity Dunk Tank should round out a great
day. Tickets for the "His 'n Her" raffle can be
purchased at the COA office and at 2 p.m. that day some lucky folks
will be taking home a limited edition photo of "The Last Pitch at
Tiger Stadium" and a Sapphire and Diamonds Ladies Cocktail
Ring.....local celebrities scheduled for the Dunk Tank are Carolyn
Flore, County Clerk, Barb Hancock County Treasurer, Dr. Brian Bilyea,

Fresh.
