The Bergmann Center of Charlevoix County will pick up commodities in Boyne City on the 1st Thursday of each month and deliver them to senior citizens of Charlevoix County who are homebound and do not have anyone who drives living with them. Contact Marge Krchak at 231/547-0103.

Computer lab instructor available Tuesday at 1:00. The lab is open every day.

When Boyne City, East Jordan, and Charlevoix schools are closed due to bad weather, the senior center in that city will be closed, too. Listen to local radio and TV stations.

Seniors and anyone on Medicare with questions regarding the Medicare Prescription Drug Program (Part D) or who wish to arrange a session with a certified expert should call (231) 237-0103

Home Weatherization Program: if you meet the income guidelines, you may be eligible. Call Northwest Human Services Agency at (231) 347-9070 or 1-800-443-5518.

Scholarship money are available that help defray the cost of Adult Day Services. We are also taking referrals for In-Home Respite. Call sue Bergmann at 237-0103.

Charlevoix Public Library offers free home delivery of books and audios to those who find it difficult to get to the library. Call 547-2651.

The Charlevoix County Living Room is taking referrals for adult day services. Hours are 8 a.m to 5 p.m. M, W, F. Call our East Jordan site at 536-5300. We are also taking referrals for in-home care respite. This is for all caregivers of a parent or spouse who requires 24 hr. care for a dementing illness or a medical need. Call Sue Bergmann at 237-0103 for information and an assessment.

We have these services: in-home medication management, in-home foot care, lawn care, and snow removal. The COA and the Charlevoix County are coordinating a spring and fall clean-up funded by the COA; the service will be provided by minimum security prisoners. Any senior who is homebound and in need of assistance for any of these services please contact the COA at 237-0103.

The Charlevoix County Commission on Aging meets on the 3rd Monday of every month at 207 Antrim Street, Charlevoix, from 10:00 a.m. to noon. Open to the public.

ALZHEIMER'S SUPPORT GROUPS

The Alzheimer's support group will meet the 3rd Tuesday of the month at the Charlevoix Senior Center in Charlevoix (06906 Norwood Road) from 1:30 to 3:00. This meeting is open to any caregivers of a loved one with a dementing illness.  Call 237-0103 for more information.  New Location
    The East Jordan Alzheimer's support group meets the 1st Wednesday of the month, 3:30 - 5:00, in the lower level of the East Jordan Senior Center. Barb Shooks, Adult Day Services Coordinator, will facilitate this group. 536-5300.
    The Kalkaska Alzheimer's Support Group meets the 2nd Thursday of the month, 2:00 p.m., at 419 Coral Street. 258-7522.
    The Petoskey Alzheimer's support group meets the 2nd Tuesday of the month, 2:00 p.m., at 1322 Anderson. 547-5122.
    The Boyne Area support group meets the 3rd Tuesday of the month, 10:00 - 12:00 at the Boyne Area Senior Center. Call 582-6682

The COA is a designated EPIC (Elder Prescription Insurance Coverage) site, but it is not currently open to enrollment.  However, if you need financial help with your prescriptions, there may be some programs to help.  Please call Marge at 237-0103. 

The COA is a volunteer site and supports RSVP. Volunteers are needed at the  East Jordan Senior Center and also the new Adult Day Center in East Jordan on Fridays to assist with bingo. Potential volunteers may call RSVP in Petoskey at 347-5877. The new RSVP director, Sally Pickering, is at the COA office Tuesday morning each week (237-0103). Or call RSVP in Petoskey at 347-5877. 

Job openings with Senior Employment of Northwest Michigan are available for helpers/activities/volunteers. You must be at least 55 and income eligible. Please call Sue Graybill at 1-800-442-1713.


Beaver Island
If there are any residents of Beaver Island interested in Dining Out Vouchers, please contact Jean Palmer at (231) 448-2915. We offer the same services to Island residents based on need, including meals on wheels, waves, or wings. Vouchers may be purchased for $2 each and are good for breakfast at Dalwhinnes Restaurant. You can select from three breakfasts. Vouchers are limited to 4/person per month.

     The Senior Advisory Board meets the 1st Wednesday of every month at 10:00 at the Boyne City Senior Center at City Hall. Open to the public.

The COA Board meeting is always the 3rd Monday of the month from 10:00 to 12:00. This meeting is open to the public and held at 207 Antrim St. Please call ahead if you would like to be placed on the agenda. 

Special Senior Center Dinner: 2nd Wednesday and 4th Tuesday of every month.

NOTICE:  Charlevoix County Transit will begin making a run to Petoskey every Wednesday. Bus will make rounds to designated pickup sites and will transport passengers to Petoskey to designated drop-off sites.
    Approximate time in Petoskey: 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.
