Miles With Meaning is a program that coordinates a transportation voucher program, paying 40 cents a mile, to volunteer drivers willing to take seniors or disabled persons to different locations. Call the Commission on Aging for more information.

Mother Lode Restaurant has euchre every Sunday at 2:00 p.m. Entry fee is $5. Euchre Tournament 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month at the Kalkaska Senior Center, 12:15. Entry fee $3.

Rapid City 131 North Area
Leave Kalkaska at 8:45 a.m., 2:30 p.m., 5:30 p.m.
South Boardman/Fife Lake Area
Leave Kalkaska at 7:45 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 3:30 p.m.
All times approximate. We would like 24-hour notice if possible. Anyone needing to come in from these areas would be able to schedule a ride on these same routes.
The COA has contracted with Transit for on-demand response, door to door. We must have a minimum notice of 24 hours. There is help with transportation to medical appointments in Traverse City. Appointments can't be any earlier than 1:00 p.m. If your appointment is done by 2:00 p.m., then you can ride the 2:00 p.m. bus back. If your appointment is not done by 2:00 p.m., you can ride the 5:00 p.m. bus back to Kalkaska.

Please volunteer. You will be given a list of seniors in your
telephone exchange to call. This will help us keep in touch with homebound
seniors. See Joyce in the COA office.

Breakfast Offered
The Kalkaska Senior Center serves breakfast on Mondays and Fridays. Breakfast is served from 8:30
to 9:30 am. Suggested donation for seniors age 60 and older is $2. Under age 60,
the charge is $3.
Lunch Schedule
Kalkaska: Monday
through Friday, 12:00 - 12:30. No reservation needed. Also, breakfast
served every Monday, 8:30 - 9:30. Age 60 and older, $2. Under age 60,
$3.
Blue Lake: Monday at
Noon. Call Addie at 587-4753 before 10:00 for reservation. Extra
activities: exercise at 10:30 am and quilting at 1:00.
South Boardman:
Tuesday & Thursday, 12:15. Call Blanche at 369-2700 or 369-2917 before 10:00 for reservation. Cards
at 11:00 am.
Rapid City:
Wednesday at noon. Call Ann Woodruff at 331-6209 before 10:00 on Tuesday for a
Wednesday reservation. Site: Little Red Schoolhouse. Extra

Manistee Lake: Friday at noon.

In-Home Hair Care
Homebound seniors needing hair care can call Alice at the
Commission on Aging office for the names and numbers of local beauticians who
will come into your home and meet your hair care needs as their schedule allows.
Cost and availability vary.
Kitchen Band Forming
The Awesome Ageless Wonders are looking for folks who can
play kitchen utensils. Join by coming to the Senior Center on Thursdays at
10:00 am.
Table Tennis: Most Saturdays at the Kalkaska Commission on Aging facility on Coral Street. Call Addie Trombley at (231) 587-4753.
Square dancing is held every Thursday night at
6:30 at the Senior Center. All are welcome. For more information, call Walt Lund
at 258-6534.
The prescription discount cards have arrived and
can be picked up at the Commission on Aging office at the Senior Center. For
information, call (231) 258-5030.
Community Pharmacy: If you pay $100 or more for
prescriptions each month and have no coverage, call Dee R. at the Senior Center.
A grant with the COa and other programs in several counties may provide you with
prescriptions. Eligibility is determined by ratio of drug cost to income.
