Information and advocacy to enhance the self-determination and well-being of long term care consumers. This is our 35th year of providing consumer advocacy for all consumers of long-term care services.

SERVICES:
Advocacy/Information
Information and options when making choices about long-term care
Identify, investigate, and resolve complaints made by or on behalf of residents of long-term care facilities
Provide services to protect the health, safety, welfare, and rights of residents
Work with consumers and other citizen groups to change and improve the long-term care system
Education
Develop educational resources on long-term care for consumers, community groups, and professionals
Work with providers, consumers, and organizations to increase awareness and use of best practices in long-term care facilities
Promote community education and awareness of the need of long-term care consumers
Referral
Provide referral to other helpful consumer resources, such as the MMAP or Medicare/Medicaid Assistance Program (800) 833-7174. MMAP is a program for Medicare/Medicaid beneficiaries and their families when they need help understanding their eligiblity, enrollment and coverage, medical bills, Medicare supplemental, and long-term care insurance. MMAP counselors provide information about benefits and help people solve problems with health benefit programs and related insurance products.
Best Practice Meetings are the first Tuesday of each month except when a major holiday falls in the first week of the month. Then the meeting is held the second Tuesday of the month. Notice: Sharon Gire, Michigan Director of
Services to the Aging, has announced that the services provided by the Michigan
Office of the State Long Term Care Ombudsman will switch from Elder law of
Michigan, Inc., to the Office of Services to the Aging for a two-year trial.
This will bring Michigan in line with practices in other states.
