Mission Statement
The Mission of the Grand Traverse County Commission on Aging is to improve the quality of life for resident senior citizens.

Benefits
The Commission on Aging provides services that help senior citizens remain living in their own homes. These services enhance the quality of life and offer greater safety to those we serve. Services also assist family members and friends in caring for an older adult.


To qualify for services: A person must be 60 years of age or older, a resident of Grand Traverse County, and demonstrate a physical need for assistance. Some programs have additional requirements.

Commission on Aging Funding: Funding for the Commission on Aging is provided by a Grand Traverse County millage, private donations, fees, and local grants.

Charitable Giving: Those wishing to make a charitable gift to the Commission on Aging may send contributions directly to the Commission on Aging office or donate to the Commission's Endowment fund at the grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation.

Governance: The Commission on Aging is governed by a fifteen-member volunteer board of directors. Board meetings are held the first Tuesday of each month at 10:00 a.m. and are open to the public.  Call 922-4688 for dates, location, and agenda information.

SERVICES PROVIDED:

Homemaker Aide:
Light housecleaning activities including: dusting, vacuuming, washing dishes, making beds, washing floors, washing laundry, cleaning bathrooms, washing indoor windows. An annual assessment is conducted to monitor client needs.

Home Health Care:
Assistance with activities of daily living including: Bathing, hair care, prescription review, blood pressure checks, observation of health status, oral care, skin care, changing non-sterile dressings, blood sugar checks.

Home Chore:
Yard maintenance activities to include: Lawn mowing, snow removal, fall leaf removal, changing of screens/storms, spring yard clean-up.

Charges for Services: Charges for services are based on income and determined by a sliding fee scale.

Foot Soaking, Callus Buffing, Nail Trimming, Foot Massage, 
and a Complete Foot Assessment

WHERE:   In the privacy of your own home or at one of our 
                 clinic sites
WHEN:     By appointment at your convenience

COST:       $18.00 per person at clinic sites and $36.00 for
                   in-home visits.

Service provided by experienced foot care specialists; we know you'll be happy with their care.

Inter-generational Holiday Card Program

Each year, local grade school students make holiday cards for senior citizens in Grand Traverse County.

Emergency Fund

Limited emergency financial assistance is provided, on a one-time basis, to senior citizens who meet program eligibility criteria.

Grants:

Senior Center Grants: Annual grants are provided to local senior center, including Traverse City, Kingsley, Fife Lake and Long Lake Senior Centers to support programs and activities.

Grants are also awarded to Catholic Human Services (senior companion), Area Agency on Aging, Retired Senior Volunteer Program (transportation), and Northwest Michigan Human Services Agency (home-delivered meals).

Transportation:

We arrange transportation for seniors in the area through the Retired Senior Volunteer Program. This service is provided to assist seniors by providing a means to getting them to doctor or medical appointments.  Please contact us at least one week prior of scheduled appointment to set up the transportation. The drivers are volunteers. _____________________________________________________________________________________
